Carnivals and Fairs and Festivals, Oh My!
Summer is an excellent time for congregations to reach out into their community and celebrate with family and friends. Often carnivals, fairs and festivals offer a fresh and unique way to re-connect with current members and potentially attract the attention of new worshipers to a congregation.
Please review this simple guide to ensure a safe and fun summer event.
*Plan an event with the help of committee and church board members.
*Choose a safe and convenient location.
*Review all vendor and off-site contracts, rental agreements and special event insurance requirements. All vendors should provide the church with certificates of insurance.
*Carefully consider any food or beverage needs by setting strong guidelines to prevent a food-borne illness.
*Decide on games, entertainment and activities. Typically dunk tanks and inflatable amusement attractions are not looked favorably upon by insurance carriers. Face painting and a ring toss game may be better choices.
*Assess all potential risks with a creative and open mind. Explore each detail of an event with one question in mind, “What can go wrong and have we done everything possible to provide adequate prevention and protection?”
Enjoy your summer celebration!
